COL. W.P. ROGERS CAMP #321
SONS OF CONFEDERATE VETERANS | CORINTH, MISSISSIPPI
THE COLONEL WILLIAM P. ROGERS SONS OF CONFEDERATE VETERANS
REAL SONS & GRANDSONS SCHOLARSHIPS
Real Sons
The Col. William P. Rogers Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp had the distinction of having the only SCV Camp in the country with two “Real Sons.” A "Real Son" means that their father fought in the War for Southern Independence for the Confederate States of America.
These members were Mr. Willie J. Cartwright, whose father was Pvt. John Henry Cartwright of the 1st Mississippi Infantry and Mr. James J. Nelms Jr., whose father was Pvt. James J. Nelms Sr., of Company B of the 8th Mississippi Cavalry. The purpose of these scholarships is to recognize Mr. Cartwright and Mr. Nelms as they were the last two living Real Sons in the state of Mississippi.
Real Grandsons
At the present time there are eighty-nine "Real Grandsons" in the country. Nineteen of them live in Mississippi, and the Col. William P. Rogers SCV Camp is honored to have two Real Grandsons. This is by far the largest number of any SCV Camp in the country. A "Real Grandson" means that their grandfather fought in the War for Southern Independence for the Confederate States of America. Mr. Arthur C. Dalton, Jr., whose grandfather was Pvt. Solomon Alonzo Dalton of Company C, 26th Mississippi Infantry and Mr. Harvey J. Cartwright, whose grandfather was Pvt. John Henry Cartwright of the 1st Mississippi Infantry.
